Genetic counselling

Specialist support to understand genetic test results and reproductive options.

Genetics & PGT

Genetic counselling is a process led by a trained genetic counsellor or clinical geneticist that helps individuals and couples understand genetic conditions, test results, inheritance patterns and their reproductive options, in a way that respects their personal, cultural and family circumstances. It is offered before testing (to explain what a test can and cannot show) and after results (to explain what a specific finding means and what choices are available). In fertility care, genetic counselling is commonly relevant for couples with a family history of a genetic condition, recurrent pregnancy loss, an abnormal karyotype, consanguineous relationships, or those considering PGT-M, PGT-SR or carrier screening results. Genetic counselling is non-directive — its purpose is to give clear, accurate information and support decision-making, not to tell a couple what choice to make. It also never involves determining or disclosing embryo or fetal sex for non-medical reasons, which is prohibited in India under the PCPNDT Act.
