Teratozoospermia

Teratozoospermia describes a proportion of normally shaped sperm below the laboratory's reference value when assessed under strict morphology criteria. Because even fertile men typically have a minority of ideally shaped sperm, this finding is interpreted alongside sperm concentration and motility rather than on its own. Causes can include varicocele, infection, heat exposure, certain medicines or genetic factors, but a specific cause is often not found. Isolated teratozoospermia with a normal count and motility often still allows natural conception; when combined with other reduced parameters, IVF with ICSI is commonly considered.
