Male fertility
Sperm leaving the testis are not yet able to swim well or fertilise. They gain these abilities as they pass through the epididymis over about two weeks. Blockage here is one cause of obstructive azoospermia, and sperm can sometimes be retrieved directly from it by PESA or MESA.
