Male fertility
The vas deferens transports sperm during ejaculation. It is cut or sealed in a vasectomy, and may be absent from birth in congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens, which is linked to cystic fibrosis gene changes. Both situations cause obstructive azoospermia, and sperm can usually still be retrieved surgically.
