Anatomy
Fertilisation normally happens inside the fallopian tube, which then transports the early embryo to the uterus. Blocked, scarred or damaged tubes are a common cause of infertility and are usually assessed with an HyCoSy or HSG. IVF bypasses the tubes entirely, which is why it is the standard treatment for tubal factor infertility.
