Letrozole lowers oestrogen briefly, which prompts the pituitary to release more FSH and encourage a follicle to grow. In Australia it is commonly prescribed for ovulation induction, particularly with polycystic ovary syndrome, although it is registered mainly for other uses. Cycles are usually monitored with scans. Your doctor will explain the dose, the timing and the small chance of more than one follicle developing.
