Cycle and ovulation
A sharp rise in LH tells the dominant follicle to release its egg, usually within a day or so. Urine ovulation predictor kits detect this surge. In IVF the surge is deliberately suppressed with medicines so that eggs can be collected before natural ovulation occurs.
