Fertility basics
Ongoing pregnancy usually means a pregnancy that has passed roughly 12 weeks with a heartbeat present. Fertility studies use it as an outcome because most losses happen before this point, so an ongoing pregnancy rate is closer to the chance of a live birth than an early positive test is. Definitions vary between studies, so check what a clinic means when it quotes the figure.
