Fertility basics
A clinical pregnancy is one where a pregnancy sac, and usually a fetal heartbeat, can be seen on ultrasound. It is the standard measure used in fertility statistics because it is more meaningful than a positive blood test alone, which may reflect a very early loss. Clinics usually scan around two to three weeks after a positive pregnancy blood test.
