Anatomy
The two ovaries sit either side of the uterus. They hold all the eggs a person will ever have, contained in follicles, and release hormones that drive the menstrual cycle. During IVF stimulation both ovaries are encouraged to grow multiple follicles at once, and they are monitored by transvaginal ultrasound.
