Preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy biopsies a few trophectoderm cells and counts chromosomes. It can reduce time to pregnancy and miscarriage in some groups, particularly older patients with several embryos, but it does not increase the number of babies a person can have from their embryos, adds cost, and carries a small risk of discarding a viable embryo. It is not Medicare-funded in Australia.
