Fertility basics
Time to pregnancy is the measure researchers use to describe how quickly conception happens in a group of people. Most couples who will conceive naturally do so within a year, with roughly eight in ten conceiving in the first 12 months of regular unprotected sex. It is a population statistic and cannot predict any one person's timeline, but it is the reasoning behind the 12-month and six-month thresholds for seeking help.
