Balanced translocation

Chromosome material swapped between chromosomes with nothing gained or lost.

Genetics

A balanced carrier is usually healthy but can produce eggs or sperm with unbalanced chromosome sets, leading to failed implantation or recurrent miscarriage. Karyotyping identifies it, and options include natural conception with prenatal testing, PGT-SR or donor gametes.
