Surrogate (gestational carrier)

In Canada surrogacy must be altruistic: paying a surrogate is prohibited, though receipted expenses in permitted categories may be reimbursed. Gestational surrogacy, where the surrogate is not genetically related to the child, is the usual arrangement. Independent legal advice for the surrogate and the intended parents, and counselling for everyone, are standard before treatment.
