Some gender-affirming hormone therapies and surgeries can reduce or end the ability to produce eggs or sperm, so a person may wish to discuss fertility preservation — egg freezing, sperm freezing or embryo freezing — with a fertility specialist before starting treatment. This conversation is best had early, since some effects of hormone therapy on fertility may not be fully reversible even if therapy is later paused. Access to fertility preservation and to future use of stored eggs, sperm or embryos in India depends on eligibility under the ART (Regulation) Act, 2021 and related rules, as well as individual clinic policies; patients are encouraged to discuss eligibility and documentation requirements directly with a registered ART clinic. Preservation improves future options but cannot guarantee a later pregnancy or child.
