Metabolic syndrome describes a cluster of features including insulin resistance, central (abdominal) weight gain, raised blood pressure, and abnormal blood lipid levels. It commonly co-occurs with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and can affect long-term health as well as fertility treatment planning. Women with PCOS and features of metabolic syndrome may be offered screening for blood sugar and lipid abnormalities as part of a broader fertility work-up, alongside lifestyle advice, because these factors can influence both ovulation and pregnancy outcomes.
Also known as: insulin resistance syndrome
