Anovulatory infertility is difficulty conceiving because ovulation is absent or occurs too infrequently to allow regular chances of pregnancy. Common causes in India include PCOS, hypothalamic causes such as very low body weight or excessive exercise, thyroid disorders, and raised prolactin. Diagnosis usually involves a menstrual history, hormone blood tests, and ultrasound. Depending on the underlying cause, treatment may include lifestyle change, ovulation induction with medicines such as letrozole, or treatment of an underlying hormonal condition. Anovulatory infertility generally has a good prognosis for pregnancy with appropriate treatment.
