The Surrogacy (Regulation) Act, 2021 is the Indian law that permits altruistic gestational surrogacy under specified conditions, prohibits commercial surrogacy, and establishes surrogacy clinic registration, National and State Assisted Reproductive Technology and Surrogacy Boards, and Appropriate Authorities to administer the framework. It works alongside the ART (Regulation) Act, 2021, which regulates the ART procedures used to create the embryo. The Act has been supplemented by Rules and amendments since 2021, including changes to gamete-source requirements and eligibility conditions.
