Male fertility
Total sperm count is calculated by multiplying sperm concentration by the total semen volume, giving the overall number of sperm produced in one ejaculate. It differs from concentration alone because a normal concentration with a low volume, or vice versa, can both affect the total figure. This measurement is used together with motility and morphology to judge the overall semen picture and to help decide whether treatments such as intrauterine insemination or IVF/ICSI are more suitable.
