The transfer catheter is a very fine, flexible tube loaded with the embryo in a tiny drop of medium and passed gently through the cervix under ultrasound guidance. A mock transfer beforehand maps the route so the real transfer is quick and atraumatic. The embryologist checks the catheter afterwards to confirm the embryo has been released.
