An endometrial biopsy takes a thin sample of the lining through a fine catheter passed through the cervix, usually in rooms and taking only a few minutes. It is used to look for chronic endometritis, abnormal cells or, in some protocols, receptivity testing. Cramping during and shortly after is common.
