Hormones
LH works alongside FSH. In women a mid-cycle surge causes the mature follicle to release its egg and forms the corpus luteum; in men LH stimulates testosterone production in the testes. Persistently high LH relative to FSH is sometimes seen in PCOS, and low LH can point to a problem in the pituitary or hypothalamus.
