Eggs, sperm & embryos
An oocyte is the egg produced by the ovary. Each is surrounded by supporting cells and, after collection, the embryologist assesses whether it is mature enough to be fertilised. Not every follicle seen on a scan yields an oocyte, and not every oocyte collected is mature.
