Sperm DNA fragmentation measures damage to the DNA strands within sperm, which can happen through oxidative stress, infection, varicocele, smoking, heat and advancing age. Higher levels have been linked with lower fertilisation and higher miscarriage rates, but the test is not part of a standard work-up everywhere and the evidence on how to act on the result is still developing. Discuss with your specialist whether it would change your plan before paying for it.
