Fertility basics
Advanced maternal age is a clinical term used from age 35, and it triggers earlier fertility investigation and some extra pregnancy monitoring. It is a statistical marker, not a prediction: many people conceive and have healthy pregnancies well beyond 35. It matters in fertility care mainly because egg numbers and the proportion of chromosomally normal eggs decline with age, which affects IVF outcomes and the number of cycles that may be needed.
