Diabetes and fertility

How type 1 and type 2 diabetes affect conception and pregnancy.

Conditions

Well-controlled diabetes before conception reduces the risk of miscarriage and birth differences, so Australian guidance recommends planning pregnancy with your diabetes team, aiming for target HbA1c and taking higher-dose folic acid. Some diabetes medicines are changed before pregnancy. Type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance also overlap with PCOS.

Also known as: type 1 diabetes pregnancy, type 2 diabetes fertility, HbA1c
