Options usually include continuing storage, using embryos in a future cycle, donating to another person or to research where permitted, or allowing them to succumb. These decisions require written consent from everyone with a say, and Australian rules vary by state and by clinic. Many people find this the hardest part of treatment, and counselling is available.
