Pelvic pain

Ongoing pain in the lower abdomen or pelvis.

Conditions

Persistent pelvic pain has many possible causes, including endometriosis, adenomyosis, adhesions, bladder and bowel conditions, and pain sensitisation in the nervous system. Australian pelvic pain services increasingly use multidisciplinary care rather than surgery alone. Sudden severe pain during fertility treatment always needs urgent assessment.

Also known as: chronic pelvic pain
