Anatomy
The uterus is a muscular organ with a cavity lined by endometrium. Its shape, cavity and lining all matter for implantation, and abnormalities such as fibroids, polyps, adhesions or a septum may be investigated before treatment. Assessment is usually by ultrasound, sometimes with saline infusion or hysteroscopy.
