Obesity and fertility

How higher or very low body weight can affect conception.

Nutrition and lifestyle

Weight influences ovulation, IVF response, miscarriage risk and pregnancy complications, and some Australian clinics apply BMI thresholds for anaesthetic safety at egg collection. Modest, sustainable changes in nutrition and activity can improve ovulation without extreme dieting. Very low body weight also suppresses ovulation, and weight is only one of many factors involved.

Also known as: BMI and fertility, weight and IVF, obesity
