Cycle cancellation

Cycle cancellation means a fertility treatment cycle (IUI or IVF) is stopped before its intended endpoint, based on findings during monitoring. Common reasons include poor or absent follicle development, an unexpectedly premature LH surge or ovulation, too many follicles developing (multiple-pregnancy or OHSS risk), or a change in the person's health during treatment. Cancellation can be disappointing after the time and cost already invested, but it is a safety-driven clinical decision intended to avoid a cycle unlikely to succeed or one carrying higher risk. Most clinics discuss the reason for cancellation and the options for a future cycle, which may include a change of approach such as a different protocol or moving from IUI to IVF.
