Chromosomes are structures of tightly packed DNA carrying our genes. Most human cells contain 46, in 23 pairs, with eggs and sperm each contributing 23. Errors in the number or structure of chromosomes are a leading cause of failed implantation and miscarriage, and become more common as eggs age.
