A karyotype is a laboratory picture of a person's chromosomes, showing whether the usual 46 are present and correctly arranged. It is often requested after recurrent miscarriage, in severe male-factor infertility, or where a chromosome rearrangement is suspected. Finding a balanced rearrangement in a parent explains some losses and opens the discussion about PGT-SR.
