Endometriosis

In endometriosis, tissue resembling the endometrium grows in places such as the ovaries, pelvic lining, bowel or bladder. It can cause painful periods, pain during sex, pelvic pain and, for some, difficulty conceiving through inflammation, adhesions or damage to the ovaries. Diagnosis is often suspected from symptoms and scans and confirmed at laparoscopy. Treatment is individual — pain management, surgery and fertility treatment are all options, and the best route depends on symptoms, age and whether you are trying to conceive.
