Oestradiol (spelt estradiol in American sources, and often written E2) is the principal oestrogen. It rises as follicles grow, thickens the womb lining and helps clinics judge the response to stimulation during IVF monitoring. Very high levels during stimulation can be one signal of a high response and OHSS risk.
