Female fertility
PID is infection of the womb, tubes or ovaries, most often following a sexually transmitted infection such as chlamydia or gonorrhoea. It may cause pelvic pain, abnormal discharge, fever or pain during sex — or very few symptoms at all. Because untreated PID can scar the fallopian tubes and cause tubal infertility, prompt treatment of suspected infection matters, and testing is available at both public clinics and private practices in South Africa.
