An endometrioma, sometimes called a chocolate cyst, is a cyst of old blood within the ovary caused by endometriosis. Larger endometriomas can reduce the number of eggs retrievable and make egg collection more complex. Surgery may help symptoms but can also remove healthy ovarian tissue, so the decision is individual and is usually made with a fertility specialist.
