Heavy menstrual bleeding

Heavy menstrual bleeding is defined by impact rather than a measured volume: flooding, changing protection hourly, passing large clots or becoming anaemic. Fibroids, adenomyosis, polyps and clotting disorders are common causes, several of which also affect fertility, so it should be assessed rather than tolerated.
