Paying for fertility treatment in the United Kingdom
Fertility treatment in the UK is either funded by the NHS or paid for privately. NHS criteria are decided locally, so what is offered varies by area.
NHS-funded treatment
Integrated care boards decide who is offered NHS fertility treatment in their area, using local criteria alongside NICE guidance. Your GP or fertility clinic can tell you the criteria that apply where you live.
Self-funded (private) treatment
Private clinics must publish their prices. Ask for a full written estimate that separates treatment, medication, storage and add-ons before you commit.
Workplace and other support
Some employers offer fertility benefits or paid time off for appointments. Your employer's HR policy will say what is available.
