Donor egg

Donor eggs are used where ovarian reserve is very low, after premature ovarian insufficiency or cancer treatment, where there is a serious heritable condition, or after repeated poor egg quality. The recipient's lining is prepared with hormones, and the embryo created with a partner's or donor sperm is transferred. Egg donors in South Africa are screened and counselled, and donation is altruistic — donors may be compensated for time and expenses rather than paid for the eggs themselves.
