A hysteroscopy passes a narrow camera through the cervix to inspect the uterine cavity directly. It can be diagnostic or operative — removing polyps, small fibroids, adhesions or a septum in the same procedure. It may be done in rooms with local anaesthetic or in theatre under sedation or general anaesthetic, which affects both recovery and cost.
