Method
- Step 1. Brown the minced beef in a large pan over a medium-high heat, breaking it up as it cooks.
- Step 2. Add the onion and carrot and cook for 5 minutes until softened.
- Step 3. Stir in the lentils, stock, tomato purée and Worcestershire sauce.
- Step 4. Simmer for 25–30 minutes until the lentils are soft and the mince is cooked until piping hot throughout with no pink meat remaining.
- Step 5. Meanwhile, boil the potatoes for 15–20 minutes until tender, then mash with milk and butter.
- Step 6. Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan).
- Step 7. Spoon the meat mixture into an ovenproof dish and top with the mash.
- Step 8. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden and piping hot throughout before serving.
